About Us

The Soultown team is buzzing with only professional and sparky musical talents. Having met on a UK tour for a major tribute band, we have created a party set that demands for people to put on their party shoes.

Abigail Gibson

Abi has from the day she was born, been surrounded by music – in the form of her dad’s Chris De Burgh ‘Lady in Red’ CD, Diana Ross, saxophone ‘classics’ and every single Christian ‘Songs of Praise’ CD dating back to the early 80s. Growing up as a ministers daughter, there was no escaping the weekly song-full church services with a daily dose of her mums operatic renditions of every hymn going blasting out from the kitchen.

It’s from this that Abi developed her love and deep affection for Gospel music. She always loved to sing and was quickly pushed to the front of the church to sing a song in front of the large congregation! Her favourite song was titled ‘My Jesus, My Saviour’ sung, by what she thought was a big black mama belting out the bluesy tune. It was when Abi realised that the said lady was a skinny white woman, that she thought that singing a powerful soul tune could be some the white girls could do too.

Abi has since trained to top standard in classical singing, and worked as a professional jazz singer in New Zealand.

Paul Burke

Paul Burke began playing guitar at the age of 12 after being inspired by his Father to take it up. He joined his first band at the age of 15, and was gigging in local pubs and clubs one year later with local rock covers band Cut N Edge. After leaving school, Paul went on to study music for the next five years, first at Colchester Institute and later at Guitar-X as part of Thames Valley University, where he achieved a 2:1 in Popular Music Performance.

Paul is a versatile and experienced guitarist, specialising in a wide variety of musical styles. He has endured stints in a number of different bands throughout the years, including Cut N Edge, two different stints in Morpheus, Up2Eleven, Soul-Town and being repeatedly fucked over by those wankers in the Blues Brothers Experience, as well as depping and sessioning for countless bands and solo singers. He also has a massive schlong.

Wilbur Jarmin - insane drummer!!

Simon Rownes - all about that bass, no trouble.

After graduating, Simon went on a tour of the UK for 2 years with The Rockabilly Rebels, much to the dismay of his parents.

He then settled into a career teaching Mathematics at an independent boarding school on the borders of Wales, got married to Nina and had his first son, Jack.  But he was still playing every spare minute in the originals band Human Zoo on the London circuit, chasing a recording deal.

Five years later he moved to London and a new direction in Investment Banking. Simon spent more than 20 years at Meryll Lynch and Goldman Sachs. He had two more sons along the way, Henry then Max.

But he still found time to play in bands along side The Move, The Searchers, The Singing Blue Jeans, in Russia with Rasmus, on stage with Bev Bevan and Tony Burton, etc..

Simon is widely regarded as one of the most talented and naturally gifted bass player around these parts.

Tony Mallandain - Resident DJ. Like Tony Blackburn, but not.

The man that keeps things altogether!
